Uses:

• Pain relief: Lortab is primarily used for short-term relief of moderate to severe pain caused by injury, surgery, or chronic conditions.
• Cough suppressant: Hydrocodone in Lortab may also be used off-label as a cough suppressant.

Side Effects:

Lortab can cause a range of side effects, both common and serious.

• Respiratory depression (slow or shallow breathing)
• Severe hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Liver damage (due to high doses of acetaminophen)
• Risk of addiction, abuse, and misuse (due to hydrocodone)
• Allergic reactions (swelling, itching, rash)

Precautions:

• Avoid alcohol: Drinking alcohol while on Lortab can increase the risk of liver damage and respiratory problems.
• Dependency and addiction: Hydrocodone is an opioid and may cause physical dependence if taken for long periods.
• Liver damage: Acetaminophen in high doses can cause severe liver damage, especially if taken alongside other acetaminophen-containing drugs.
